Are you ready for IPv6?
Major companies around the world like Google, Facebook, Youtube, etc. enabled IPv6 for their products and services. And you can count us in (n_n)
As an edpnet customer you can ask for a IPv6 address via my edpnet. You can find a specific link on the my edpnet homepage: http://my.edpnet.be
What is IPv6?
You have an Ipv4 address (50.19.155.235). Edpnet can provide you with an IPv6 address, click here.
Every computer, website, ... connected to the Internet, has a specific IP address (version 4). A unique address that makes sure the Internet traffic (an e-mail for example) ends up with the right person.
The current supply of IPv4 addresses, about 4.3 billion worldwide, will be shortly exhausted. In Asia, this will be the case in 2011, Europe will run out of IP addresses in the course of next year.
As there will no longer be unique “Internet addresses” available, IPv6 has been created. This is a collection of new, longer Internet addresses which allow an almost unlimited number of combinations (for every person on earth, 50.000 quadrillion ).
If the stock of IPv4-addresses is exhausted, the first IPv6 only addresses will emerge on the Internet. E.g. people purchasing an iPad 2 or iPad 3 will be assigned with an IPv6 address. If, by that time, you are not IPv6 ready, you will no longer be able to reach these people.
Edpnet already made its own network and supporting systems Ipv6-ready and will connect people to this more extensive network, as the first provider in Belgium. For this reason, we are performing some extensive testing without any inconvenience for our customers.

And what about my modem? You can use your modem, even if it is not IPv6 ready. We can reassure you that you will stay online, even after the full implementation of IPv6.
We currently provide modems/routers which are IPv6 compatible, e.g. Fritz!Box 7340. Our Cisco routers 87x and 88x are also IPv6 compatible.
Edpnet is waiting for a IPv6 solution for other brands, such as Sagem, ZyXEL, etc. (e.g. firmware upgrade).
